Servicing

In line with SOLAS safety standards, with respect to critical life saving equipment, MRT has introduced an annual service and recertification program to ensure that all sMRT Alerting units remain certified and fit for purpose, for the expected life of the product.

Quality assurance guarantee

To ensure the highest standards are maintained, all service activities are carried out by an approved MRT “Service Centre of Excellence”.

Recertification & Warranty

By performing the servicing & recertification of all sMRT equipment in this manner, we ensure that dedicated, fully trained personnel perform all service activities in a consistent, professional and expedient manner. All test activities are undertaken utilising specialised custom built equipment that is supplied and regularly calibrated by MRT. Approved MRT Service Providers worldwide adhere to the same strict quality assurance standards as the service technicians at our headquarters in the United Kingdom.

We maintain detailed records of all servicing activities; log the results of all tests, parts replaced, serial & MMSI numbers, unit usage data and customer details. These are available upon request for the operational life of all of our units.

A recertification certificate is issued after each service and the equipment then has an additional 12-month warranty.

“MRT will provide a customised annual recertification schedule that fits your business needs”

Life Jackets

Visual inspection:

Our experts will visually inspect all of the aspects below for any signs of damage, wear and tear:

  • Webbings
  • Stitching
  • Buckles
  • Cover
  • Bladder
  • Pressure Testing

Providing the visual inspection is clear, we will conduct a pressure test. The life jacket is inflated and then left, monitoring the millibar levels over a set time to ensure there is no more than a 2mb drop in pressure.

Finding Leaks:

If a life jacket fails a pressure test, the leak needs to be identified. If the leak is found to be from a changeable part, such as the oral inflation valve, it can be replaced. A further pressure test is then undertaken. If the leak is found to be from the bladder, this is not repairable. It will be deemed as a fail and should be taken out of service.

Rearming and Repacking:

Once the life jacket has been successfully checked and pressure tested, the canisters can be replaced and the life jacket rearmed, repacked and made ready for use. Any parts with an expiry date that falls within the next 12-month period, such as bobbins, will be replaced at this stage.
